Broomfield Primary School

Governor Information

The Governing Body is the strategic decision-making body in the school. It has a crucial role in making sure every child gets the best possible education.

Governors come from all sections of the community, and all walks of life. They can be parents, staff at the school, residents in the locality or representatives of local churches or businesses.

The role of the governing board is a strategic one, its key functions are to:

  • set the aims and objectives for the school
  • set the target for achieving those aims and objectives
  • set the policies for achieving those aims and objectives
  • monitor and evaluate the progress the school is making towards achievement of its aims and objectives
  • be a source of challenge and support to the Headteacher (a critical friend)

The Governing Body devolves a lot of its work to two committees, the Resources Committee and the Curriculum. All key decisions are ratified by the Full Governing Body (FGB).

In addition, small specialists groups are formed to assess Headteacher performance, complaints, SEN and safeguarding, health and safety and exclusions.
