A school council is a formal group of pupils who act as representatives of their classmates in discussing school issues with the headteacher and staff.
As councillors, children will:
Broomfield Primary School Council is made up of children representing each class and year group throughout the school from Year 2 to Year 6.
The children are elected by their classmates and meet every two weeks.
During the Autumn Term, a school councillor for each class from Year 2 to Year 6 was elected and we had an introductory meeting setting out the roles and responsibilities of School Council.
Our first official job was to meet with a member of the School Governing Body.
During the Autumn term, it was noted that children have been bringing in less than healthy snacks so School Council held a competition to design a poster encouraging healthy eating. This competition was very successful and we had lots of brilliant entries.
During the Spring Term, we have been planning World Book Day - voting on the top 3 school dinners and puddings to share with our cook Miss Allen and the kitchen team so that she can use the information to plan a special book themed lunch, and planning and sharing ideas and plans of activities for World Book Day.
